Boyes, Blues edge Flames in shootout

12/24/2009 - Calgary, AB (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Brad Boyes scored the decisive goal in the shootout, as the St. Louis Blues edged the Calgary Flames, 2-1, at Pengrowth Saddledome.

After no resolution was reached in overtime, Boyes beat Calgary netminder Miikka Kiprusoff to open the second round of the shootout. Olli Jokinen's bid for the Flames caught iron, then T.J. Oshie, celebrating his 23rd birthday, found the back of the net to secure the extra point for the visitors.

Patrik Berglund lit the lamp in regulation for the Blues, who have won the first three stops on a four-game road trip that concludes Saturday in Minnesota. Chris Mason stopped 23 shots in the win.

"It was just a tight hockey game, almost a playoff type feeling," said St. Louis head coach Andy Murray.

Mark Giordano tied the game in the third period for Calgary, which has dropped five of six. Kiprusoff finished with 26 saves.

"When you get to a shootout anything can happen, but we've got to find a way to win at home, that's the most important thing," said Calgary head coach Brent Sutter.

St. Louis drew first blood when Berglund collected a carom off the end boards and fired the puck behind a sprawled goaltender at the 6:55 mark of the middle stanza.

The Flames knotted the game on a friendly deflection. Daymond Langkow won a draw cleanly back to Giordano, who ripped a shot from the left point that ricocheted in off the leg of St. Louis defenseman Mike Weaver with 7:42 remaining.

Game Notes

Both clubs were 0-for-2 on the power play...St. Louis improved to 4-3 in shootouts this season, while the Flames fell to 2-3...Calgary wraps up its four-game homestand Sunday against Vancouver.
